Company profile

Cobham plc (CH) develops, delivers and supports aerospace and defense systems in air, on land and at sea. Its three divisions provide components, subsystems and services for communications and safety. Its key strength is its technological edge highlighted by the release of its next generation air-to-air refueling pods. CH had a GBP 2.5bn order book with a book-to-bill ratio of 1.01x in 2010, indicating orders roughly matched capacity. CH maintained Impressive trading margins of 18.3% with balance sheet strength highlighted by Interest coverage of 9x and Net debt/EBIDTA of 0.8x. Organic revenue growth was driven by Aviation services and sales of its latest air refueling pod however, this masked underlying weakness in the US and UK defense spending programs. Thusly, CH continues to focus on high growth, high technology markets including India and in the Middle East. Its Largest customer is the U.S.A (61%: 2010 rev), 77% of which is for defense and security. Given the challenging macro environment, with governments re-examination spending priorities, this represents a key risk.
