Weir Group (‘WG’) provides engineering and technical services to the Minerals (55% of revenue), Oil & Gas (28%) and Power & Industrial (15%) sectors. The Minerals division’s products include pumps, dewatering equipment, etc. servicing companies like Alcoa, BHP Billiton and Rio Tinto. The Oil & Gas division designs and manufactures pumps and equipment for the global oil and gas industry with customers including Baker Hughes, Schlumberger and Weatherford. Power and Industrial provides designs and manufactures generation equipment and provides aftermarket support for customers like EADS, Hyundai Heavy Industries and Toshiba. Aftermarket sales, which have higher margins than original equipment sales, increased to 58% in 2010 vs. 54% in 2009. Strong nuclear power demand from Asia (especially China) should benefit the Power & Industrial division. The strategy to focus on emerging markets bodes well given increasing industrial activity in these regions. WG targets to double its 2009 earnings (PBTA) by 2014 through market expansion, operational leverage, innovation and further acquisitions.
