MANCHESTER, UNITED KINGDOM -- (Marketwire) -- 01/01/12 -- With just a few more days to go until the Christmas break, overworked van drivers are looking forward to a few days off work over the festive season.
In light of this, Swinton Commercial van insurance is warning van drivers to ensure their vehicles are securely locked away for the Christmas period.
The van insurance retailer has estimated that nearly 85% of UK van drivers will be taking a well-deserved break over Christmas with some already finishing a few days early.
Swinton Commercial is urging van drivers to make sure that if they are not using their vehicle until they return to work on 3rd January to ensure it is secured appropriately to avoid any unnecessary van insurance claims from incidents such as theft or break-ins.
Swinton Commercial is also reminding those van drivers who like to have a festive tipple on the day they finish for Christmas not to be tempted to get back behind the wheel.
Phil Moss Commercial Vehicle Manager at Swinton said, "Christmas is an expensive time for most people especially this year as we are in the depths of a recession so the temptation is there for thieves to target work vans. Drivers should lock the van away in a secure garage if there is one available or if not ensure that they remove all tools and equipment from the back of the van. Investing in extra security devices such as immobilisers or steering locks will also give drivers peace of mind over Christmas."
